Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA), the city’s gambling regulator, has announced that Responsible Gaming Week will take place from February 17th to 22nd.
The event, which coincides with the International Responsible Gaming Day recently celebrated, is focused on the promotion of safer gaming practices throughout Buenos Aires.
Through a LinkedIn post, the regulator of games of chance disclosed that during the week a series of consciousness-raising and educational initiatives would be taking place at the gambling hubs of the city such as Hipódromo de Palermo, Casino de Puerto Madero, and licensed retail outlets.
LOTBA states that the primary goal of the occasion is to establish safe gaming environments and to encourage players to engage in responsible gaming practices.
The gaming regulator stated:
It is a week to talk about playing informed, with limits, in safe and legal environments. So that betting is always entertainment and not a problem.
Over the six days of the event, LOTBA will conduct awareness campaigns about support hotlines and player protection tools. In the games venues at Hipódromo de Palermo and Casino de Puerto Madero, there will be interactive sessions where the users will be invited to participate actively and get exposed to the messages of responsible gaming.
In addition, LOTBA is going to share educational matters using its official online platforms so that the message can be heard by many who may not physically attend the events. Combining both online and on-site campaigns, the gaming board aims at making the culture of responsible gambling a norm in the local community.
Focusing primarily on lawful gaming environments is in fact a top priority in a market where the distinction between the regulated and unregulated sectors keeps being a major headache for LOTBA.
Along with awareness campaigns, the organization has been expanding its repertoire lately.
Since the president, Jesús María Acevedo, revealed a new training program that puts a special emphasis on legal gaming and the prevention of problem gambling, the unveiling has been very successful.
This training was geared towards a criminal group from Buenos Aires who had been charged with illegal gambling.
The training was targeted at the ex-cashiers who were the main facilitators of these criminal rings and are now going through the legal process.
Like other projects of the gaming board, this training is part of the Hablar es Ganar or Talking is Winning campaign.
The focus is user protection, educating about the risks of illegal gambling, and in turn, responsible gaming is being promoted as an overall concept.
