Indonesia’s online gambling turnover fell by 20% in 2025 compared to 2024, driven by an ongoing crackdown on illegal gambling activity.
Total amount flowing through illegal online gambling dropped to Rp286.84 trillion (~$19 billion) from Rp359.81 trillion (~$24 billion). Despite the decline, online gambling activity levels remained high with 422.1 million transactions and Rp36.01 trillion in deposits in 2025. About 12.3 million people made at least one gambling deposit in 2025.
Authorities describe this decline as a direct result of measures taken by supervisory and regulatory bodies against illegal online casino activities.
Despite the decrease, online casinos continue to gain popularity, which shows that the market is still active even under pressure.
Crackdown Measures and Ongoing Challenges
Indonesia’s Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) credits the decline to coordinated efforts between government agencies, banks, and digital platforms.
More than 30,000 bank accounts linked to online gambling activities were rfeezed. Monitoring of suspicious financial transactions has increased. Stronger compliance requirements has imposed on financial institutions.
In 2025 alone 422.1 million gambling-related transactions were recorded in Indonesia. Approximately 12.3 million individuals made at least one gambling deposit.
Authorities also note that new payment technologies, including QR code-based payment systems and cryptocurrencies, continue to complicate law enforcement efforts. While these tools improve user experience, they create additional challenges for monitoring and prevention.
PPATK officials described the decline in turnover as an important milestone, especially as Indonesia prepares for future international financial supervision and assessments.
