DraftKings has unveiled a new offering entitled DK Replay which it describes as “historical betting markets” based on past Major League Baseball games.
Basically, this concept allows bettors to wager on the outcomes of games that have already taken place, thereby giving an alternative way to the sports betting interaction. This product was released on Thursday, March 25 and currently it is working only in Oregon after the Oregon Lottery approved it.
DraftKings said that there could be more such releases if the company obtains the approval from the regulatory authorities in other locations. Besides, a spokesperson from the company mentioned that DK Replay is considered a sports betting product by the company.
In a press release, DraftKings’ Chief Product Officer, Corey Gottlieb, said:
With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year.
This feature is only available to those having DraftKings Sportsbook app in Oregon. The players are shown anonymized pitcher vs. batter matchups, and each player gets a bronze, silver, or gold rating which comes from the original game performance data, both of which are hidden from users. Besides these, other stats such as batting average, slugging percentage, ERA, and strikeouts per nine innings are available for users to evaluate the situation.
Bettors can bet on pitch predictions – ball, strike, or in play – and the wagering can be done within a limited time frame. The pitch is shown on the screen and the original historical result determines the bet’s success.
If the timer expires without a bet, the full details of the matchup are revealed, including the pilots, the game date, and a summary of the plate appearance.
The technique depends on a rich database of countless historical plate appearances. Due to this, it is possible to have a continuous supply of betting chances even at those times when no games are being broadcast live.
DK Replay is also among the tools DraftKings is leveraging to bring to life its Super App concept under which a single, unified app would be the primary point of access for all kinds of entertainment activities and that would include sports betting, prediction markets, casino games, and lottery products. Indeed, the company has disclosed its plan to integrate its DK Horse app with the main app as part of this project.
DK Replay was developed as part of the company’s game plan not only to offer another layer of betting content which is there 24/7 but also to boost the user interaction and make sure players stay actively engaged in the different forms of wagering available on a single platform.
