The industry total for October was negatively impacted by a significant decline in sports betting revenue.
According to the most recent report from Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gaming regulator, October saw a 3.4% year-over-year decline in gambling revenue. Following the announcement of new gambling advertising limitations in Denmark by 2027, the decline was especially noticeable in sports betting.
In October, licensed gambling businesses made a total of DKK 599 million (€80 million). Gains in revenue from land-based casinos and gaming machines were countered by a 46% decline in sports betting revenue to €112 million. This is true even though the Danish Superliga and important international tournaments like the Champions League, Premier League, and La Liga are all in action throughout the month.
Some have speculated that the decline in sports betting earnings may indicate an increase in the use of unregistered operators. Online casino earnings, however, are still increasing; in October, they reached DKK 356 million, up 24.4%. Revenue at land-based casinos increased as well, rising 6% to DKK 31 million.
Danish GGR, excluding lotteries, is currently DKK 13.56 billion. Just over half of it came from online casinos, with sports betting coming in second at 28%, gaming machines at 15%, and land-based casinos at 4.95%.
