Bede Gaming has been given provisional approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) board for a one-year supplier license. This license enables the company to be among the leading players in Alberta’s fully regulated online gambling market, which is expected to be launched later this year.
This license, which is for iGaming Goods or Services Supplier, authorizes Bede Gaming, which is part of German Merkur Group, to offer its platform and services to operators who are preparing for Alberta’s iGaming market launch.
By obtaining the status of being one of the earliest licensed suppliers in the province, Bede Gaming will be in a position to take advantage of the first business opportunities of Alberta’s market opening. Its technology stack is SOC 2 certified and consists of its own software plus more than 150 third-party integrations. With this, the company wants to make it easy for partners to enter the market and at the same time be there for their long-term growth.
Even though the province started registering operators only in January 2026, some industry experts think that the main growth of this market could be similar to that of Ontario’s iGaming sector. Also, the province is becoming well-known as a popular hub for international operators entering North America.
Colin Cole-Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at Bede Gaming, said:
Bede is delighted to receive conditional regulatory approval to work in Alberta, putting us in a great position to support operators with their upcoming expansions in the province. We have a longstanding investment in the Canadian iGaming industry, and I’m eager for the exciting opportunities ahead in this new market. As one of the first applicants to be formally recognized by the regulator, Bede offers a truly localized service to its partners, and the fact that they’re SOC 2 certified will allow them to hit the ground running as soon as they’re ready to launch.
