Norway has initiated a four-year program designed to decrease the impact of gambling on society, which lasts until 2029.
The program is an action plan with an emphasis on developing more prevention campaigns, enhancing treatment options and improving research rather than changing existing gambling laws.
Young people between the ages of 9 to 25 are a priority population audience, along with additional high-risk populations. The programming includes providing school access through outreach, creating digital awareness campaigns for youth and providing resources to assist parents, educators and the community in identifying potential warning signs.
Additionally, support services will be enhanced by providing improved access to a toll-free helpline and expanding free remote access to treatment.
The overall intent of this project, is to apply a community-wide public health approach to surrounding issues of gambling to aid in reducing and preventing incidents of gambling addiction ultimately, giving more assistance to those who may be at risk.
