Kansspelautoriteit has issued warnings to multiple online betting companies for offering prohibited betting on markets, including betting on award-winning players like the MVP. No names were disclosed, however, the regulator reiterated that only licensed operators can provide betting on match related events or the final score of a match.
After being contacted by the regulator, the operators removed the offending markets immediately. The regulator stated that all operators must continually assess the markets they are offering and take immediate action if they detect any illegal markets.
The authority has made similar comments to operators in the past about offering bets on players under the age of 21, and operators like bet365 and One Casino were cited as examples of operators that were flagged for offering illegal bets.
The Kansspelautoriteit said:
Licence holders remain personally responsible for the gaming offerings they provide, even when using external platforms or sportsbook providers. The KSA therefore expects providers to continuously monitor their offerings and take appropriate measures to prevent prohibited bets. If unauthorised bets are nevertheless offered, immediate action must be taken. The KSA will continue to supervise the gaming offerings of licence holders.
In a separate incident, the regulator also took action against JOI Gaming’s Jacks brand for violating advertising regulations by linking a logo on the Professional Darts Corporation’s website to Jacks’ online gambling site. After the regulator’s intervention, the link was removed.
The regulator added:
After Jacks was addressed by the KSA regarding the violation, the link to the website with the online gambling offer was immediately removed. The KSA emphasises that licence holders are responsible for complying with laws and regulations regarding gambling advertising. The regulator checks whether providers adhere to these rules and deploys the most effective intervention to ensure a fair and safe gambling offering.
Overall, the regulator stated they would continue enforcing stringent compliance measures regarding both betting activities and gambling advertisement practices in order to maintain a fair and regulated environment.
