After stepping in as the interim leader when Regis Dudena left, the Ministry of Finance in Brazil has made the decision to appoint Daniele Cardoso as the permanent director of the gambling authority in Brazil.
Cardoso had been serving as Acting Secretary of Prizes and Betting since late January. However, it’s now a permanent position. As the mastermind behind the establishment of the first online betting and gaming system in Brazil, Dudena has now become the head of the Secretariat for Economic Reforms at the Ministry of Finance.
Her appointment was publicly announced on X by Brazil’s Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, who said:
Nobody does anything alone. We are a serious, united, and technical Ministry. Women and men committed to making a difference every day, working for the prosperity of Brazilian families.
While serving as interim, Cardoso was already very instrumental in influencing the issue of online gambling in Brazil, which was just unfolding then. Now, as the SPA’s permanent leader, she will be assisting the regulator in mapping the way forward for its next phase which, among other things, includes regulatory and operational areas. One of the aspects that may need immediate attention will be the finalization of regulations for B2B iGaming and sports betting providers. Moreover, SPA is still engaged in several projects such as the implementation of Brazil’s national self-exclusion system.
The battle against illegal gambling is still a mainstay for the main objective, which is to increase channelization rates. Collaboratively with the National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel, among other things, the implementation of blocks to unlicensed operators will be done.
