Veikkaus has announced a new responsible gaming model that will include additional loss limits for younger players and increased interventions for customers who meet certain criteria for gambling habitually to help them manage their losses.
The new care model has a rollout date of June 9. Gamblers between the ages of 18 and 19 will receive contact after losing €4,000 in a twelve-month period. After this contact, a player can choose to continue gambling. They will be limited to annual losses of €8,000. In contrast, a contact will occur at €8,000 in losses for gamblers between the ages of 20-24, and a loss limit of €24,000 will be placed on this demographic as well. If you are 25 years old or older, you will be contacted after achieving €24,000 in losses.
These requirements are specific to online gambling accounts; Casino Helsinki will continue operating under its current responsible gambling policy.
According to Veikkaus, this new model has been created to help identify high-risk gambling behaviors more quickly through real-time data and provide support earlier to avoid underlying issues.
This program, in conjunction with changes in Finland to its gambling monopolization program, is occurring as Finland prepares to open its gambling industry. On July 1, 2027, private companies will be able to apply for a license to operate as a B2C and B2B sports betting operator.
Over 30 operator applications have been received. Most operators have not completed their license application due to waiting on additional information from the Finnish government concerning the responsible gaming requirements, such as limits on losses and self-exclusions.
